Statement on U.S. China Trade Battle
Trump's trade battle with centuries old partner directly harms U.S. consumers
Trade between China and the US dates back to the 1700s. For years, there has been a trade deficit with China, of which the American Consumer was the beneficiary due to low cost products, and the American distributors and brands also benefited from low cost production in China, including Trump family brand items. US agriculture industry was also a big beneficiary of the exports to China.
For the current administration to do something about this now and start a trade war will only harm the US consumer. It does not benefit the US overall. What we do know is that China has made concessions and will continue to make concessions to the US.
It is unfortunate to have this happen in what has so far been a rather amicable relationship between two nations.
