Crafting meat for a flavorful future

Patricia Bubner is a scientist and engineer working on building a future of food that is ethical and sustainable. She is the founder and the CEO of Orbillion Bio, Inc. which will be the first company to bring premium cell-cultured meats to the market.

Throughout her academic and industry career, Patricia followed her passion in food: while a postdoc at UC Berkeley, she co-founded The Millet Project, an agriculture and food systems project focused on diversifying agriculture and raising public awareness and consumption of lesser-know grains, like millets. They worked with farmers, food producers, and consumers to develop several food products with millets. Patricia enjoys applying her deep technical expertise to big unsolved problems, such as transforming the global food system to both provide enough food for the billions of people living on this planet and do so in a sustainable way. At Orbillion, she is now combining her work experience from the biopharma, food and sustainable materials industry, and building a world class team to take cell-cultured meat production to the next level. Patricia holds an MSc in Technical Chemistry and a PhD in Biotechnology from Graz University of Technology in Austria, and did her postdoctoral research at the Energy Biosciences Institute at UC Berkeley.

Cell-Cultured Meat Pioneer, Orbillion Bio, Partners with Premium Meat Powerhouse, Luiten Food, to Bring The World’s First Cell-Cultured Wagyu Beef to Europe

September 22, 2022

"We craft premium cell-cultured meat from top quality heritage breeds so you can finally feel good about eating your favorite foods."

This is Orbillion

Orbillion Bio will be the first company to bring premium cell-cultured beef to the market.

Focusing on premium and “better for you” products, they will replace prime beef and wagyu with an ethical alternative that tastes amazing. They will be among the first companies to file for US regulatory approval and are forging a clear path to cost reduction. Orbillion has developed the key technologies to scale cell-cultured meat up — developing four different flavorful meats 18x faster and 10x cheaper than their competitors. At their tasting event, food experts praised the flavor and texture of their first products (video). The founders, Patricia Bubner, PhD, Samet Yildirim, MSc, MBS and Gabriel Levesque-Tremblay, PhD have more than 30 years of combined experience in business and product development, bioprocessing and biopharma.

In 2021, they closed an oversubscribed Seed round and raised a total of $9.5M. Since then, they have grown their team to 16 FTEs including experienced leaders in Bioprocess Development, Cell Line Development, Product and Business Development, Regulatory Affairs, Food Science, and Marketing. Major investors in Orbillion are Y Combinator, At One Ventures, Venture Souq, FoundersX Ventures, and Metaplanet.

Fifteen languages and twelve countries are represented across the Orbillion team.
